True North Man

Oct 4, 2021

Michael was four years old when his mother cut off his right index finger and was twelve when he “got high” for the first time. He spent most of his childhood homeless and in poverty. Clueless about what he wanted to do with his life, he spent all his teens selling drugs, breaking into houses and stealing cars for survival. What he thought would bring an end to his troubles, is money.

Money did come. At twenty-one, he started making a six-figure income. However, things took a turn for the worse. He became morbidly obese, smoking two packs of cigarettes a day, drinking himself to sleep, and more. Life became a disaster for him.

Nothing changed for the better until he acknowledged his past and accepted the reality. “I was leveraging and using my trauma as an excuse to not show up for myself,” Michael confesses. This key moment prompted him to start living his life with the motto, “no excuses, just results.”

Now, Michael is a motivational speaker, coach, mentor, and author. He assists people in “understanding and overcoming” their childhood trauma with practical tools so that they can create the life they want to live. He also hosts Think Unbroken Podcast as part of his mission to make a difference in the world.

In this episode of the True North Man podcast, Paul and Michael have a deep conversation on childhood abuses, their impact on life, and recovery from that. Your guest helps you understand: “the past traumatic events may be your foundation, but they cannot determine your future.”

What You Will learn:

  • What recovery stages Michael had been through to create a life of significance.
  • Why he was scared to acknowledge his past harrowing experiences.
  • How childhood trauma affects adulthood and how damaging it can be.
  • And much more!

Favorite Quote:

“What you think becomes what you speak, what you speak becomes your action, and your action becomes your reality.  If you ever think you’re not good enough, that's going to be your reality, because you're going to create the action that's going to make that true.”
